Betty Carter – Vocal, b.1930 d.September 26, 1998 Flint, MI RN:Lillie Mae Jones, Betty was an American jazz singer who was renowned for her improvisational technique and idiosyncratic vocal style. Carter expanded the role of the vocalist in jazz, to a full, improvising member of the band. Although her voice was not as admired by the public as such vocalists as Sarah Vaughan or Ella Fitzgerald, many consider her to have exercised mastery of the human voice previously unheard in jazz. Friedrich Gulda (16 May 1930 – 27 January 2000) was an Austrian pianist who performed in both the classical and jazz fields.Vienna, Austria, Born in Vienna as the son of a teacher, Gulda began learning to play the piano from Felix Pazofsky at the age of 7; in 1942, he entered the Vienna Music Academy, where he studied piano and musical theory under Bruno Seidlhofer and Joseph Marx. After winning first prize at the International Competition in Geneva four years later, in 1946, he began going on concert tours throughout the world. Woody Herman – Clarinet, Leader, b.1913 d. October 29, 1987, Milwaukee, WI – Woodrow Charles Herman better known as Woody Herman, was an American jazz clarinetist, alto and soprano saxophonist, singer, and big band leader.
