A Blog Supreme – All Jazz Radio – Friday 06 March 2015

All Jazz Radio Logo Face Book1A BLOG SUPREMEWhat is it with people today, communicating between each other has become more and more impersonal, off handed and just plain rude, at least that’s what I think and strongly believe.

Call me old fashioned but personal direct communication, talking to one another on the telephone is still the best and quickest method of communication. I get most pissed off with people who when one calls them on their mobile phone has a recorded message which goes something like this, I’m not available, don’t leave a message send an SMS/Text or email and I’ll get back to you. Yeah right! The purpose of the call could be of vital importance. I phoned a number of people yesterday and I’m still waiting for them to get back to me, in fact there I’m still waiting for a few to call back from more than a few weeks ago. It’s a case of you need me more than I need you. What disrespect and a mighty Fuck You, btw, being not one who uses profanity in forums such as this I felt it was one of those few occasion it would best serve this commentary.

I make a call because I have something to say and discuss, I don’t need to wait and send messages back and forth be they email or SMS/Text, something which is frustrating, time wasting and the most unsatisfactory. It is also that I’ve wasted a phone call which costs and then I’ve got waste more time and data on sending an SMS/Text/eMail and then wait and hope that the recipient will call back. Ok, so you say it a small amount of data/call time but add up the amount of time wasted in doing so, sending things back and forth to every person one wants to talk to on a monthly basis.

My time is just as important as is the recipients, but to have the same message repeated throughout the day and night is just showing the middle finger don’t you think?. Come now, one is not all that busy, 24/7, your service ethic sucks, how much business is lost?. I don’t make frivolous phone calls there is always a very good reason for my making the phone call.

My thoughts lead to me believing on receiving a SMS/Text/eMail the recipient won’t call back 9 times out of 10, it further shows these people believe in their own self importance. What do you think?

When I contact local musicians, PR companies and festival organisers

it is because I’d like to interview them on one of our shows, once again the same malady occurs. SMS/eMail/Text is the message and guess what they never get back at all. Tarring all with one brush yes, because so many are affected by the malady.

I have never experienced this when contacting musicians, music pluggers and PR people from overseas who are always pleased to be chatted to no matter the time difference/zone. We use Skype and Viber to chat with musicians around the world to great success. Yet there is a huge reluctance for Cape Town and South African musicians to promote themselves and their music effectively, is it that they fear to compromise their artistic integrity, or is it that they don’t believe in there own ability’s or believe it is beneath them to work hard to promote themselves and their output. Is there an answer to this? What are your thoughts on this matter.

I was at Straight No Chaser on Thursday night with All Jazz Radio Website editor and reviewer Carol Martin to catch Saxmeister Buddy Wells leading his outfit The Buddy Wells Quintet, a rare occasion to hear his original compositions. The band made up of Nick Williams (bass), Keenan Ahrends (guitar), Jonno Sweetman (drums) and Steven Sokuyeka (trombone). Buddy got the group together in 2013 to perform his compositions which is strongly influenced and rooted in SAFRO Jazz, folk, Cape and African Jazz. I only stayed for the first set and what a set it was an incredibly stunning performance. Thankfully our intrepid reporter Carol decided to stay so expect her review to appear on the All Jazz Radio website a little later today. Suffice it to say, sjoe!, jinna! You weren’t there you really missed something incredible night of music.
